What counts as a click

How click tracking works and what types of clicks are recorded.

A click is recorded every time a recipient clicks a link in your newsletter. Daystage tracks clicks on all link types.

What is tracked

  • Text links within a paragraph block
  • Button block clicks
  • Event block location links (if the location is a linked address)
  • Attachment download links
  • Link preview blocks
  • Video embed thumbnails (opens YouTube in a browser)

What is not tracked

  • The unsubscribe link (handled separately)
  • Clicks on images that are not linked

How click tracking works

When Daystage sends your newsletter, each link is replaced with a tracking URL. When the recipient clicks it, the tracking URL records the event and immediately redirects them to the original destination. This happens in under 100 milliseconds and is transparent to the recipient.

Multiple clicks from the same person

Each click by the same person on the same link generates a separate click event. If a parent clicks your "Permission slip" link three times (possibly to find it again), you will see three click events in the report. The total click count in the dashboard reflects all events, not unique clickers.
