✏️ Writing Newsletters

Add a video to your newsletter

How to embed a YouTube video so recipients can watch it from the email or web version.

The Video block adds a YouTube video thumbnail to your newsletter. Recipients click the thumbnail to watch the video in their browser. On the public web version, the video plays inline.

Why a thumbnail? Email clients cannot play video directly. Daystage shows a thumbnail with a play button overlay so the email looks great, and the click brings the recipient to the video.

Adding a video

  1. Click Video in the left sidebar.
  2. Paste a YouTube URL into the field. Both youtube.com/watch?v=... and youtu.be/... formats work.
  3. The video thumbnail loads automatically.

Good uses for video in school newsletters

  • A short classroom update or read-aloud recorded by the teacher
  • A student performance or event recap
  • An instructional video for a homework assignment
  • A school or district announcement from the principal

Video length

There is no technical limit on video length. In practice, shorter videos get more views. A 2-3 minute clip works well. Anything longer is better shared as a link in a Text block.
