✏️ Writing Newsletters

Change the theme and background

How to change your newsletter's color theme and header background image.

The Style bar above the editor gives you three tabs: Templates, Background, and Style. Each controls a different aspect of how your newsletter looks.

Templates tab

Templates are full starter layouts. Applying a template replaces the current blocks with a pre-built structure. If your newsletter already has content, Daystage will ask you to confirm before replacing.

Background tab

The Background tab changes the photo behind the newsletter header. Options include:

  • None — a solid color header based on your school's primary color
  • 16 preset photos — school-appropriate images from Unsplash (classroom, library, chalkboard, outdoor, etc.)

Click any option to preview it instantly. You can also reach the Background tab by clicking the Photo button that appears when you hover over the newsletter header.

Style tab

The Style tab offers four color themes:

  • Modern — clean white background with indigo accents
  • Warm — soft warm white with amber accents
  • Minimal — all white, minimal color
  • Bold — darker background with high-contrast text

Click any theme to apply it. The change shows immediately in the editor.

Tip: Themes affect the email body background and text colors. Your school's primary color (set in Settings) is always used in the header and buttons, regardless of theme.
