Unsubscribes explained

What happens when someone unsubscribes, and what the rules are around re-adding them.

Every newsletter Daystage sends includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. When a recipient clicks it, they are automatically and permanently removed from your mailing list.

What happens when someone unsubscribes

  • The address is marked as unsubscribed in your list.
  • It will not receive any future newsletters from you, even if you import it again.
  • You can see unsubscribed addresses in your Mailing Lists view under the "Unsubscribed" filter.

Can I re-add someone who unsubscribed?

No. Once someone unsubscribes, you cannot add them back to your list manually. This is required by email law (CAN-SPAM in the US, and similar regulations in other countries).

If a parent unsubscribed by accident and wants to receive your newsletters again, they need to contact you directly and ask to be added back. You can then re-add them, and Daystage will honor this as an explicit opt-in.

Note: Unsubscribe rates for school newsletters are typically very low (under 0.5%). Parents generally want to hear from teachers. If you see a high unsubscribe rate, it usually means the newsletter frequency is too high or the content is not relevant to that list.
