Dear Families,


Here is a quick update on what we have been working on in class and what is coming up next week:


This Week in Class Students learned how to set up and solve equations using the Triangle Sum Theorem and the Exterior Angle Theorem. We also began exploring the relationships between angles formed by parallel lines intersected by a transversal.


What to Expect Next Week

  • Angles & Lines (Continued): Finishing up our work on transversal line relationships.

  • Angle-Angle (AA) Similarity Theorem: Exploring how angle measurements relate to similar triangles.

  • End of Topic Assessment: Evaluating student mastery on these angle relationships and triangle concepts.

  • Representing Proportional Relationships: Transitioning into our next unit on proportions across tables, graphs, and equations.


MATHia Reminder Please encourage your child to keep up with their assigned MATHia modules on Clever. Consistent practice on MATHia reinforces what we learn in class each day and ensures students remain eligible for retests!

This Week in Class

Message from the Teacher

 As a 7th grade math department, we are noticing that students are not completing homework assignments, which impacts student performance on tests.  Moving forward, if a student has not completed all of his/her homework assignments, he/she will not be allowed to retest until all assignments have been completed.  For students who are struggling, we encourage students to attend tutoring on Mondays and Thursdays as well.  

To support your child, we have assigned Mathia homework practice that will be due on the day of the test.  So, all assigned Mathia homework assignments must be completed by test day if a student is to retest.  Additionally, we have assigned Math Stream lessons.  These lessons are reviews of the class lessons and offer additional practice but are not mandatory.

We will be using the Carnegie Learning math system (MATHia) this year to support your child’s learning. Students can easily access Carnegie right from home through Clever. 

Using the platform, you can actively check your student’s progress, track their completion on lessons, and view their assigned work—including quick checks and interactive assignments completed in class—all in one place. Assigned work gives instant feedback on what the student's got right or wrong.

One of the most beneficial features of Carnegie is its step-by-step, instant feedback. When students work through problems, the system provides immediate guidance to help them pinpoint exactly what went wrong and learn how to fix it, encouraging continuous growth and confidence in math!

Please know that your child is not alone on this journey, and our team is fully committed to supporting both you and your student every step of the way. To make learning easier at home, we will regularly post instructional videos and summaries designed to help you guide and assist your child as they build confidence in their math skills.

Tutorials

●        Tutorials are meant to help students be successful in the classroom. Whether it is working on missing assignments or getting help understanding the concept. Make sure you use the time wisely when in tutorials.


●        Tutorials will be held on Monday and Thursday mornings before school from 8:00 - 8:50. If you cannot make it in the morning and prefer after school, you MUST email your teacher to set up a date and time that will work. Please arrive on time, so we can make the most of the tutorial sessions.

Electronic Policy

Reminder about new state law regarding Technology at Schools (it’s not just cell phones): Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy (House Bill 1481)

Per state law, students are prohibited from using personal communication devices during the school day. This includes:

  • Cell phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Earbuds/Headphones
  • Tablets
  • Any device capable of texting, calling, recording, or accessing the internet

These items should be secured in lockers during the day. If a student does not yet have access to a locker, alternative arrangements will be made (backpack-turned off).

FAQ's

What supplies are needed in the classroom?

●        2 Subject Spiral Notebook

●        Highlighters (assorted colors)

●        Colored Pencils

●        Glue Stick

●        Pencils (always bring extras!!)

●        Scissors

●        Two Pocket Folder w/ Prongs

●        Dry Erase Markers

●        2" Binder w/ Dividers

What is the tardy policy?

a.       Students who are outside of the doorway after the start time will be counted tardy.

b.       Reporting to class after the first 20 minutes of class will result in an unexcused absence.

c.       Tardy Disciplinary actions will be handled by the Administrators.

What is the late work policy?

a.       All work has a given due date and must be turned in by their deadlines.

b.       Ten points will be deducted each day when an assignment is late. If an assignment is more than 5 days late, it will no longer be accepted.

c.       Incomplete work will be returned to the student for completion and will likely result in a late grade.

What is the absent work policy?

a.       The student is responsible for any missed work. Students are required to follow up with the teacher to collect work that they missed. They must collect notes and catch up on their return.

Is there any homework?

a.       Homework will be given regularly. Homework is your opportunity to practice. Just like the best athletes must practice, so do the best mathematicians! It is your responsibility to check your homework and ask questions if needed.

b.       Daily work will be a mixture of in-class activities from the interactive Carnegie learning platform.
