Indigenous Peoples' Day

Ms. Ackerman

Dear Families,

This week our class marked Indigenous Peoples' Day by learning honest history about the Indigenous nations who lived here long before European settlers arrived, and who are still here today.

What we learned this week

We talked about the difference between Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day, and why more communities are choosing to honor the Indigenous nations who have called this land home for thousands of years.

Students used our classroom globe and map to trace the Indigenous nations connected to the places we live and learn.
  1. What Indigenous Peoples' Day honors
  2. Native nations connected to our region
  3. How to learn more as a family
