Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Ms. Ackerman

Dear Families,

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and our class has spent the week learning about the history and cultures of AAPI communities. Here's a look at what we covered.

Our AAPI Heritage Month projects

Each student researched a country or community across Asia and the Pacific Islands and created a small presentation for the class. We covered everything from Diwali and Lunar New Year to the history of Pacific Islander navigation and the contributions of Asian American leaders.

Students shared paper lanterns, fans, and flags representing the countries they researched, and we mapped every one of them on our classroom world map.
  1. Monday: country research begins
  2. Wednesday: presentations to the class
  3. Friday: AAPI Heritage Month showcase in the library
